ABOUT US

Academic Global Surgery

Academic Global Surgery (AGS) involves the application of research, education and evidence-based advocacy towards clinical surgical care in regions of health inequities. The primary goal of AGS is infrastructure development with delivery of high quality surgical care to all, whether in high-, middle- or low- income countries or in urban or rural locations.

We envision a world where safe , effective , timely and affordable surgical health care is accessible to everyone.

Our Mission

We aim to establish academic approaches in global surgery to reduce surgical health care inequity worldwide.

Our Objective

We will engage and unify academic global surgery to:
 

  • Cultivate and refine the teaching and administration of global surgery program via partnership and innovation with similar organization globally
     

  • Support global surgery program in developing equitable bidirectional collaboration
     

  • Develop the next generation of compassionate, capable academic global leaders in surgical education, clinical care, research policy and advocacy

Chris Dodgion

MD, MSPH, MBA, FACS

PRESIDENT

Dr. Chris Dodgion MD, MSPH, MBA, FCS (ECSA), FACS is an Associate Professor of Trauma and Director of Global Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He currently co-chairs a workgroup developing an Operative Encounter Registry in collaboration with the World Health Organization and G4 Alliance (https://theg4alliance.org). He is the co-lead of the education subcommittee of the American College of Surgeons Health Outreach Program for Equity (ACS HOPE) and has been involved in ACS/COSECSA collaboration with Hawassa University since its inception.  He also serves as the Chair ACS Young Fellows Association Governing Council.  Through global collaboration, he seeks to strengthen trauma systems, expand quality improvement initiatives in low-resource settings, and address the global surgical workforce shortage through education innovation.
